• 2 credit course on campus in the Spring
• 6 credit internship in a central or South American country
• 1 credit summery and analysis of your experience

START's Community Resilience, Engagement, and Dialogue (CRED) Fellowship

Have you ever wondered how communities respond to terrorism or work to prevent it? 

Are you interested in working to prevent radicalization and violent extremism in communities? 

If so, then START's Community Resilience, Engagement, and Dialogue (CRED) Fellowship, a comprehensive, two-and-a-half –year, program designed for 4 undergraduate students at the University of Maryland, may be for you! 

Students will enter the program in the middle of their sophomore years, and the program will last through the end of their senior years.  

The program is designed to train students to work in homeland security-related positions, especially positions related to community engagement, community resilience, and Countering Violent Extremism (CVE).

Paid Internship Available

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities has paid internships in a range of subject areas including health policy, housing, federal fiscal policy (including tax), legislative affairs, food assistance, family income support and state legislative and fiscal policy --- for undergraduates, law, social work and other graduate and doctoral students.  These internships are highly competitive and provide fantastic experience and access to a great network for students interested in a career in public policy.

Graduating Seniors, M.A. and PhD. candidates:

Things you should know as the Sociology graduation ceremony gets closer:

• Please arrive at Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center by 3:00 pm.  Faculty and Graduates will line up in the Dance Theatre.   This will allow us to go over the details of the ceremony and to make sure we have all the information needed to recognize you during the ceremony.

                                           

• We estimate that the entire ceremony should last no more than 1 ½ hours.  A reception for graduates and their families will be served from 1:30-3:30 pm before the ceremony on the 3^rd floor atrium of the Art/Soc Building.

• Tickets are not required for the Sociology Department’s graduation.  We would like to know the number of students who plan to come to the reception and the approximate number of their guests for planning purposes.

• Members of Alpha Kappa Delta can pick up their honor cords in the Sociology Undergraduate Office.

• Handicapped and limited regular parking is available around Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center.  A shuttle bus will run every ten minutes from the Stamp Student Union Garage.

Things we need to know:

• How many family and friends do you expect to attend the reception?
• Please let us know if you need a sign language interpreter before May 11th.
