Clinical Social Worker

MSC is currently searching for a Clinical Social Worker to support the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
This opportunity is full-time, and it is on site in Bethesda, MD.  

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Patient Assessment and Planning for Financial Need and Community Resources - obtains selected
  • information about research participants’ household, living situation, employment, financial situation,
  • and other pertinent information to make initial and continuing eligibility determinations for financial
  • assistance from agency resources and to identify related needs for community resources and services. 
  • International Patient and Caregiver Assistance - assists those international patients/caregivers whose
  • medical team determines that their stays must be extended due to medical necessity. The incumbent
  • assists the patient/caregiver with gathering and organizing documents for submission to the NIH Division of International Services.
  • Pharmacy Assistance Case Management - The incumbent works with the patient/caregiver to apply to
  • pharmaceutical companies requesting financial support for prescription medications.
  • Discharge Planning Assistance - communicates with insurance companies and health care facilities to
  • identify possible resources for continuity of care for inpatients under direct and close supervision by
  • clinical social work staff. 
  • Resource Identification and Referral - maintains information and directories of community resources
  • and social services to assist the patient/caregiver with identifying possible resources/services for which
  • research participants/caregivers may be eligible.
  • Patient/Caregiver Education About Resources – explains eligibility criteria, discusses needs, and educates
  • research participants about agency and community resources and services for which they may be eligible.
  • Social Work Department Administrative Support, including front desk coverage/reception coverage
  • NIH Clinical Research Information System (CRIS) Documentation


Position Requirements:
  •  Must have completed a Bachelor of Social Work degree from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)-accredited BSW program
  • Must have a clinical social work license at the BSW level from any US State or Territory.
  • Bilingual (Spanish)
