Responsibilities:

Professional responsibilities may involve:
• Working with experienced policymakers and former government officials;
• Conducting research and writing to support policy analyses and other Center projects;
• Helping to organize meetings with Presidential scholars, Congressional staff, and Ambassadors;
• Assisting with conferences, publications and public relations outreach.

 

Requirements:

Students in all majors are welcome to apply, especially those studying political science, history, international relations, economics, or business.

The MATCH Corps, a highly selective one-year urban education fellowship, is looking for top-notch seniors who are interested in joining next year’s Corps.  To apply, just fill out this form: http://apply.matchschool.org/apply.php.

The MATCH Corps program began in 2004 and is the first of its kind in the nation. The Corps is a group of 140 top recent college graduates who work one-on-one with six to eight MATCH High School, Middle School, or Elementary School students each day for an entire academic year. Corps members live together in apartments nearby the Middle School and Elementary School, and in a dorm on the top floor of the High School.

All three schools are open-admission Charter Public Schools in Boston, MA. This full-time service year program is designed to fully close the academic Achievement Gap between minority students and their non-minority peers, one student at a time. Each Corps member works to guarantee the academic success of MATCH students while building personal relationships. Corps members also undertake secondary projects such as serving as teaching assistants, and may also coach teams and power extracurricular programs.

We also offer an optional teacher training program called MATCH Teacher Residency. In MTR, Corps members receive additional training on the weekends with the aim of becoming unusually effective first year teachers in high-poverty schools. Graduates of MTR go on to teach at some of the most highly regarded charter schools in the country and tend to outperform other rookie teachers in the classroom.

Student Intern Position Description

The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) within the U.S.

Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking a part-time student intern to begin in the spring of 2012 though the summer of 2013.  The position is paid and the intern must be located near HHS headquarters in Washington DC.

ASPE serves as the principal advisor to the Secretary of HHS on policy development and is responsible for major activities in the areas of policy coordination, legislative development, strategic planning, policy research, evaluation and economic analysis.  The incumbent will be working in the Office of Science and Data Policy and supporting an interdepartmental web-based health data project.  For more information regarding ASPE and its work, please visit our website at https://aspe.hhs.gov.

Program Requirements:

Applicants must be graduate students in good academic standing and have exhibited an interest in online communication, including Internet publishing through content management systems.  They should also have interest in health policy and data analysis.  Qualified applicants will have exceptional communication, writing, and problem-solving skills and all applicants must be U.S. citizens.

Internship Expectations & Details:

The incumbent will work with people from across HHS and with a content management system.  Training on that system will be provided.  The incumbent will work at the HHS Headquarters in Washington, D.C.  The position is part-time, with the potential for full-time work during some months of the year according to the incumbent’s schedule (potentially January and July).  The position is paid.

The university’s campus-wide commencement ceremony will be held on Wednesday, December 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the Comcast Center. Further information is available at http://www.commencement.umd.edu/ . The College of Behavioral and Social Sciences' commencement ceremony will be held on Thursday, December 22 at 4:00 p.m. in the Comcast Center. Students, faculty marshals and doctoral hooders are to line up in academic regalia at 3:00 p.m. in the small gym on the ground floor of the Comcast Center. Faculty and platform party members are to line up at 3:15 p.m. in the press room on the arena floor of the Comcast Center.

Important Information for Fall 2011 Commencement

• Tickets are NOT required for the college ceremony or the university ceremony.
• Please do not bring any non-essential personal possessions as there is no place to leave them.
