Opening for an AmeriCorps*VISTA Recruitment and
Operations Coordinator
Full Time Year of Service with Stipend at a Maryland Nonprofit
The following position is a
one year (November 2014-November 2015) AmeriCorps* VISTA position at Code in the Schools in Baltimore, MD
and sponsored by Greater Homewood
Community Corporation (GHCC). The mission of Code in the Schools is to
bring high-quality computer programming classes to the under-served and
under-represented youth of Baltimore City.
The youth of Baltimore city
are critically underserved. Code in the Schools seeks a special individual with
the skills and passion required to brighten these children’s futures. Are you
that person? The VISTA’s duties will
comprise of project management including:

Recruiting
students, instructors, and industry partners
·
Creating the
program manual
·
Streamlining the
application process
·
Creating forms
and other necessary documents for operation management
·
Liaising between
program partners
·
Creating a
long‐term fundraising strategy
The goal of this VISTA project
is to create a pipeline by which underrepresented students are selected from
Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPS) to participate in intensive computer
science (CS) training, and go on to internships within the tech industry that
will lead to high-paying jobs.
AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers
in Service to America) is not a job per se, but a full time national service
opportunity. Benefits include: living allowance, relocation assistance,
health coverage, choice of an education award or cash stipend, and
non-competitive eligibility for federal employment upon completion. Preferred
candidates will have a college degree or equivalent work experience, leadership
potential, and motivation to serve.
